“Picture books allow students to have vicarious experiences through characters who are not like them” (from the Picture Book Month Teacher’s Guide: Why Picture Books Belong in Our Classroom

Ever dream of being king? Do you sometimes pretend to be a princess? As a class, create a list called “What it Means to Be Royal.” Then create Venn diagrams for each student and a royal character from a favorite picture book. Focus on the similarities and differences between the two. If possible, research a real-life royal and add them to the Venn diagram in a third circle.
